Do you think these are reasonable colleges to apply for me?

ok so

4.16667 weighted from fresh-jr year
unweighted gpa like 3.8-3.9
uc gpa 4.3 or very close to that
sat 2010, studying this summer and hoping for 2100+
interested in business, if business fails than premed
california resident
first generation college student
internship at Welcome to Vorsteiner
varsity tennis
asian
overcame adversity
male

Extreme Reaches / Reaches
harvard (economics_
princeton (economics)
U Penn (wharton)
Stanford (economics)
Columbia (economics)
UC Berkeley (haas)
University of Chicago (economics)

Slight Reaches/Matches
UCLA biz econ
UC Berkeley
USC (marshall)
NYU (stern)

Slight Matches/ Safeties
UCSD for premed
UCI for premed
Davis if all else fails

tell me if you guys think i should even apply to princeton/harvard/stanford

I don't think Berkeley is anyone's match school, and UCSD is, in my judgement, a safety only for students who have cured cancer. Even Davis isn't a sure thing. I suggest going down a notch for the safeties-- perhaps one of the other, less selective UCs?

i cant apply to anywhere below uc davis. my family is bent on me getting into atleast ucla...

plus also i think i have a reasonable/good shot at getting into uc berkeley/ucla considering i am first generation, have above average uc gpa for admitted freshman, california resident, have 2010 going to study for that 2100+ on sat UCLA average = 2000 and Berkeley=2035.

Well... you have good stats. But so do a lot of other Asian kids who want to study econ or premed. Plus, what do YOU want to study? Do you want to be a doctor, or do you want to go into business? I'm sure your parents are putting you under a lot of pressure, but you're the one applying to college, not them.

If April rolls around and you get no acceptances (which is quite possible) will you be happy going to community college and then transferring? If so, fine; I know of many students who are doing that, and it's certainly cheaper. But if not, then you'd better apply to a safety or two.

no my parents dont really care. they just dont want me to major in film and acting. you know ppl who have similar stats like mine get rejected from ucsd?

Dude you're fine. UCSD is definitely a safety for you. Don't worry bout it.

If you can get ELC status by early next year, I'd say you're 98% in for UC Davis and 80%+ in for UCSD saving BME.
If not, well, look at the acceptance threads for ucsd and ucd this year and see if you want to take that chance.

whats elc status?

edit: oh nvm i found it. eligibility for something. is bme like bioengineerng?

I'll suggest adding Cornell, because its awesome and I'm going there :)

In all seriousness the list looks pretty good. The UCs all share the same application correct? As that would be a lot of applications if they didn't.

Maybe add another mid match or two since your list is a bit top heavy, although I would think you would get into either Berkeley or ucla with your stats, although you never know.

Why are you applying to so many reaches? I really think you should take a close look at HYPS, Columbia, UChicago, UPenn and eliminate at least a couple from your list. Those are all extremely different schools, you should really think if you would be happy at any of them. You don't need to waste your time applying to a school that wouldn't be a fit for you, even if it is an Ivy or peer!

Yeah, you got too many reaches on your list. I would research each school in depth to find your reason for applying to each one, and eliminate few.

I think you should definitely eliminate some as some are only there because of their NAME.

If you're going to need financial aid, I would definitely take off NYU off your list. Yes it's stern, but they give extremely poor financial aid, and believe it or not you're not going to be the exception to the ruel

The UC's should stay for the obvious benefit, but if you say your parents dont want you to attend any school below UCLA then that automatically crosses of USC, UCSD, UCI, and UCD(if its based off of rankings).

I think if you're interested in going that business/econ route, you should probably replace some of the schools with Northwestern and Claremont McKenna who have really top notch econ programs, are great schools and are more realistic then some of your reaches.

I feel you'll get lost in the many applicants who apply to Harvard, Princeton Stanford, etc. Nothing about you stands out besides first generation and the adversity, and even then there'll still be applicants just like you, i dont even think getting a perfect sat score would even help. I think if you know you want to do business/econ, from your list of Reaches, Penn should stay for sure, Berkeley, and choose 2 or 3 from Chicago, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton & Columbia(if it was me I'd do Harvard, Stanford and either Chicago or Columbia, and I'd probably do Columbia because I personally love NY)

If I re-did your list I'd do.
REACH: Harvard Stanford UCB Penn
Slight Reach/Match: Claremont, Northwestern, USC, UCLA
Low Match/Safety: The other UC's

aite cool. oh and i am not applying to claremont mckenna because lets just say my high school is less than 1 mile from it
