i hope everyone on this board gets in. we might not be a national merit scholar but god knows we tried our best.

oh and...back to the original point of this post:
Definitely deferred or rejected.

No more living next to Sarp! haha.

Just Kidding! Everyone loves you, Sarp!

Hey guys I'm new to this business...

I have a lower GPA (3.8) and a 29 act score...ive got awesome ec's and rec's, hopefully my essays are good too--i wrote about my smelly cat. ha :) But i did take a class on political philosophy over the summer at cornell and i got an A- as well as a rec from my professor...do you think it will help my chances of getting in?

Yes, a summer class and a recommendation will help. My daughter did the same (a psych class in the summer of 2002) and she's a Cornell junior now. Your essay sounds great -- might make a weary admissions officer crack a smile!

SCHOOL: small catholic all-girls school in a quiet suburb in NJ
SAT: 620 (CR), 670 (M), 710 (W) = 2000 (all three) or 1290 (CR+M)
SAT IIs: pending, Math I = confidant, Literature = worried
GPA: 4.2 (weighted...I had a really bad freshman year =/)
RANK: my school doesn't rank, but they still announce who's top 20% (not me, sadly...but it's really small -- 103 people!!)
COURSES: the hardest stuff every year...this year - 4 APs (British Lit., Calculus, French IV, US History II), 1 Honors I (Physics), 1 regular (Religion...which is required otherwise I would've taken Psychology)
DISTICTIONS: Nat. Achievement High Scorer, NSHSS, Who's Who, awards & recognition for piano performances, Venture Scholar...i think there's more but I'm lazy
EXTRAS: b-ball manager, track runner, hospital volunteer, math tutor, assistant mentor, leadership team, etc, etc...I do a lot of other stuff...oh! co-editor for my school's literary mag
INTENTED MAJOR: Biology (pre-med)

So what do you think, guys? Do I have a shot?
PARENTS: of course (but they're biased)
GUIDANCE: possible
FRIENDS: yea! give it a shot!
PRINCETON REVIEW: it's my good match school apparently (confused much??)

you have a 4.2 and are not in the top 20%? I don't undersand why schools do that.
