do you transfer students stay in the same dorms as underclassmen?

topic says it all :) just a curious transfer student...

If you can get in the dorms at all, then they're in the same buildings. Dunno if they pair you in the same rooms though.

no there is a special part of campus..the farthest building too..about a mile away from the regular dorms. it is in the middle of a gloomy forest . there is no lighting there at night. no one dares wander there.

that is where the transfers live

^Stop dissing my Hitch D:<

A lot of transfers live in Sunset Village fwtw.

how are the transfer dorms?

i think how it works is that current students get to sign up first, then whatever space is leftover is given to first years and transfers, and whatever space is left is given to fourth year students

hitch is now a freshmen dorm FYI. transfers are predomiantely in sunset as emmeline said

would anyone recommend staying in the transfer dorms? i wanted to experience the dorm life for a semester so i could meet some people.

It's not that you choose to live in the transfer dorms. You get to state preferences for high-rise buildings, plazas, and suites. See VTECaddict's thread on housing.

motojdm,

whether or not it was made clear yet, there aren't any "transfer dorms." everyone is more or less put together. though i think the housing people try to put transfers with transfers and first years with first years to make the transition easier.

Makes sense since transfers use to be stoners. They can talk about the old days.

not sure if they changed it

but last year i lived in summit with many other transfers and were mixed with everyone else (freshmen, second years, seniors)

Is it possible for a transfer student to live with a third year? If so, how would that work on the housing application? My friend wants to transfer to UCLA and we were thinking of staying in the dorms, so just wanted to see if it;s even possible for us to set that up? Thanks!

If you guys request each other, there's a very high possibility that the two of you be paired, regardless of class standing.

@ the beginning of the year the administration was saying how this is the 1st year that they have dedicated transfer dorms. several sunset village houses are transfer-only as others have mentioned. however if you and your friends request each other you may not be together w/ the other transfers...i know someone who is rooming w/ his friend and their neighbors are all freshmen/underclassmen (de neve)

that's probably because the hilgard houses are closed next year, so they want someplace only for transfers.
parts of delta terrace will be transfers-only.

i'm less sure that a transfer would be placed with a third-year. you'd prolly have to go in person to check it out, because you simply can't request each other like fellow students can since the housing signups are at different times. so it's probably the same deal as current students wanting to live with freshman. try the FAQ on the housing website.

Yeah, that was my concern, that the times would be different. Does anyone know approximately when transfer students do their housing?

(To clarify, I'm currently at UCLA and my friend wants to transfer after next year. I'm just asking in advance.) Thanks for the responses!

Well, you can always request a CAR after their sign ups and assignments. You'll be able to put you and your friend's name on there.

that's probably the best bet.
if you're currently at UCLA, you know that your housing signups are in march. transfers don't know decisions until april.
