How often do you use Office Hours? Per quarter/semester? Class?

However often, it’s not often enough.

Unless you’re that student that shows up for all office hours and does your homework outside my office. In which case you show up too often, and I don’t like you because of it.

So you don’t like students who go to office house too much?

You should definitely go a few times per semester, per professor/class. Professors tend to like it when students show interest by showing up to office hours - at least, that’s been my experience.

Don’t go for no reason, of course. Unless you fancy awkwardness.

I went a couple of times per semester for humanities, paper-based classes (to discuss paper topics). More frequently for science classes. There were some science classes where I went to office hours every week (those tended to be big classes, and office hours were almost like group study sessions). But I never went just “to chat” - I always prepared questions beforehand.

I think the definition of “too much” will depend on the student, the nature of the interaction, and the professor. There’s no magical cutoff that represents the line between “annoying” and “acceptable.” Just make sure you’re courteous to other students and that you respect the professor’s time.

I’ve never been to office hours and I make almost all A’s. If I had a question for my professor, I just asked it in or after class.

lol.
no

Hahaha, I’ll never go.

There really doesn’t need to be a set schedule of when you go…don’t you just go as needed, whenever you have a question, discuss a paper topic, that type of thing as needed?

I never go to office hours. I just don’t know what to ask.

I love office hours! I attend a few times per semester (not too much). I enjoy meeting with my professors and enjoy getting feedback about my work. I also like receiving guidance from them for my career plans and for my research interests, as those with similar interests to my own have essentially “been there and done that,” and hence have a good amount of wisdom about how to plan for a future career.

If I need the extra time then sure Ill use them.

The ones I used office hours for are the classes I did best in.

I think it depends on the prof. I use to personally drop by my favorite Philo prof often and we would go outside to smoke and shoot the breeze, he was one of those guys who would just be sitting around playing solitaire on the computer if no one came by and enjoyed the company.

I had many adjunct professors as an underclassman that did not hold normal office hours, but would always show up early or stay late to help. I usually used these people in science, chem, and english classes when I had problems.

I only once went to a profs office hours and was shooed away, he was an old crodegy tenured prof that assured me “not to worry about that stuff it wont be on the test.” I was really ****ed when it WAS on the test.
