Do You Worry About Rep?

Allow me to play devil's advocate for a moment and ask a question that I'm curious to see a discussion about.

I think most of us know that University of California, Santa Cruz is a fine institution. It is nationally ranked by US News as one of the top 30 public schools in the country, and every year graduates move on to prestigious graduate schools and positions with innovative companies. However, not everyone seems to recognize UCSC as an academically superior university.

Here's what I'm wondering: Do any of you ever worry that UCSC's "reputation" amongst certain people may impact you once you graduate, such as when you begin career hunting, or when you apply to your dream graduate school? Do you worry that someone who holds your future in their hands might look on your alma mater "unfavorably"? Has this at any point entered your mind or made you second guess your decision to attend UCSC?

Not at all, in fact I made sure so before I chose this place. The school itself does not matter whatsoever, its just the fact that the top ranked schools have more resources to give to their students, that’s why students in high ranked schools succeed more. Its what you do at the school, last year at my dad’s hard drive company, they took two interns, one from Stanford, and one from Santa Clara University, which is ranked in the 120 range, where Stanford is rank 4 I believe. Sure it can give a quick “wow” to the person reading your application, but in the end if its for a job or school, it will not be a deciding factor.

For me, i would say some what worry about it, but that is not a key factor. If this is a key factor, i would not even attend this school anyway. i think as long as you keep some solid GPA and great performance in school, the things gonna still be fine for you. Everyone wanna go to top 10 school, but not everyone can. Do you best right now, and worry about those later. People worry more about graduate school than undergraduate school, so it can be fine
