Do your teachers give special preference/privileges to seniors?

When it comes to grades, especially first quarter grades, are your teachers pretty lenient when it comes to how they grade you if you're a senior?

For me, my AP Calculus teacher just updated grades (they get posted/they "close" tomorrow at 8am) and he found out that I had a 90.0 (A-) - so, to try to help me, he said he'd put in a bunch of fluff grades (class participation, group work, etc.) until finally I got a 93.5% (A). He has not graded his Calculus class on "class participation" in 7 years, he says.

My Latin IV and AP Gov teachers both just added points to my average so that I'd have an A+ in both classes (both of which had originally been A's...). They actually added points to every senior's grades and gave all of them ample opportunity to raise it. I know kids who by spending a couple days after school this week with my Gov teacher managed to bring their D+'s to A-'s.

This is common practice at my school. Most teachers understand the importance of senior grades for college admissions so they do everything in their power to give you the best possible grade. Is that what happens at your school?

Not at all. My grades this year are lower than ever 'cause teachers are MORE strict.

Really? Even if you explain the whole “I’m applying to college and these grades are super important”?

1st quarter grades do not appear on transcripts at my school, so I’m not sure if this will happen at the end of the semester or not.

Honestly I don’t see it happening for students who want an A instead of an A- or A+ instead of an A. Nobody in my school really cares about +/- as long as it’s an A. I do think teachers would be willing to bump a C+ to a B- or D+ to C- for seniors, though.

Wow. That’s so unfair. My teachers are getting stricter this year and won’t give any lenience on grades… My grades will drop hard this year -_-;

Teachers usually view the students in context - for instance, my AP Calculus teacher knows that many of the schools I’m applying to are of higher caliber so any minor difference he can make in my grade/GPA will help.

Most of my senior teachers tend to get suuuuper lenient on things like attendance/being appropriate/being offensive. Like they basically let you do whatever you want but when it comes to grades they expect like top quality work and grade super harshly.

My brother got some flexibility his very last semester, because if he got his GPA up to a certain level he would get an extra $5,000 a year in scholarships from his university.

My teachers really don’t care at all about the fact that senior year grades are important. I’m really glad at my school they don’t boost senior year grades because that would just lead to grade inflation and making deserved As look less impressive!

They are far more strict about grades, but far less so when it comes to attendance / acting out in class.

I can’t relate to this because I’m only a freshman, but I see how inflationary help you but sometimes I would feel asif I’m being cheated out of my actual grades without the inflation. Well, it depends on how we get that inflation. I would absolutely no problem with the inflation if I were provided with a challenge of some sort and got extra credit for it. Some inflation for class participation and such doesn’t make me feel asif I really accomplished something.
