Today my S began his DOC trip (backpacking) and returns Friday. Being in one of the last waves of this year's DOC trips, he can move right into his dorm upon returning (no need to Pass GO and return home first) We plan to travel to Dartmouth for his "formal" move in day next Tuesday.

Have any parents received feedback on the trips this year. What worked, what didn't?

welcome to CC and as a 08 parent, welcome to Dartmouth. My D who is a real girly girl, had an amazing time on the DOC trip as there is truly something for everyone. I do beleive that there is something about them being unwashed in woods that really bonds them as her fellow trippees are amongst her group of best friends. On last year, members of the class of '58 visited them on their trip and made them breakfast. Your son will eat the traditional green eggs and ham and will dance the salty dog rag upon his return. You'll see him and give him a hug (but not a big one atleast until after he has showered). He'll tell you about his trip and some of the friends who will probably descend upon your home in the comming years. This is only the beginning as the campus literally welcomes the new class with open arms. Let him enjoy the ride and take solace in the fact that he will have a great 4 years ahead of him.

Her roommate from last year headed a DOC hiking trip trip this year (she just got back tuesday). I took my daughter back to "her people" on monday and she was very happy to return "home". She called me at 11:45 pm monday night to tell me that they were going to raid a DOC trip to bring them breakfast food, so she just may have caught seen your son :)

last night my daughter returned from her doc moderate hiking trip. she was exhausted but still in a very good mood. she had a wonderful time. she said her group hiked to a spot above the clouds and they climbed a fire tower. she said they ate green eggs and ham and she enjoyed the square dancing. she is looking forward to returning to hanover next week.

hi Seniorpop, my DD started her trip today with the "meet your group" dinner, so we won't have any info in time for you - it all sounds like great fun, though.
