Hi All,

I'm a prospective transfer into the Film Production program for the Fall 2011 semester, and I have a TON of questions about Chapman. I'm from the East Coast, so visiting isn't a viable option. Therefore, I've been attempting to gather as much information from the Web as possible. Any help, preferably from current students, transfers, or graduated would be much appreciated. That being said...

I would love to know more about campus life. My first year of school was spent in a cushy 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment across the street from my campus; I had one roommate. That in mind, I'm not too keen on the idea of having to share a room with someone (I'm high maintenance, an only child AS WELL AS an only grandchild, and get bothered by excessive noise). I'm considering an on-campus apartment or a single room. Is it worth the cost? Does anyone know of any students who've had off-campus housing and have found it to be favorable?

Additionally, one of the greatest resources a school can provide students with is accessibility. I am from the East Coast, and while it is possible that I might purchase a car while attending CU, it seems unlikely. How accessible is L.A. from Chapman? I have held a few internship positions in New York over the course of the past five or so years (beginning in high school) and internship opportunities are HIGHLY important to me. Can any of you tell me of first-hand or second-hand accounts where you or friends/classmates have had internships in L.A. Was public transportation involved, or did you/they drive?

Obviously, as I have already applied, I am now playing the waiting game, and my acceptance is essentially my hands. However, in the event that I should get in, I would like to make an informed decision regarding my attendance.

Any help would be appreciated!

I would suggest for you to read through some of the older and also the recent threads here in the CC and Chapman Dodge forums. There are many of them so plan on spending some time to sort through them. If you are unable to visit the campus in person, you can watch their tour on video. My DS is in the film program and said it has been a wonderful experience. If you want to get the true feeling of the campus, you must visit in person. As for campus life, Greek life, dorm life, night life, internships, transportation, etc.; it’s been covered here before in the forum. From Chapman to L.A. is about an hour plus or minus depending on traffic. Internships can be anywhere, in LA or in the OC. For DS so far has been mostly in the OC. For the purpose of convenience, it is always good to have a car, but carpooling and public transportation can also be arranged by the student. If you must, car rental is another option. Here is a website for public transportation that should be helpful to most people. Good luck. http://www.octa.net/pdf/MW_FunGuide_Fall_07.pdf

Transfers usually live in the Chapman houses or share 2 bedrooms in Glass Hall. There are hardly any single rooms. You can try to get in Sandhu Hall- newer community living. Like Film students 4th floor, business students 1st floor etc.

LA is an hour away. Beach 25 min. San Diego hour opposite direction. There is the amtrak/metrolink station 3 blocks away but to go to LA and such you would need a car if you did not want to spend hours on a train commute. I spoke to another girl who was from out of state and she has no car. She is fine and just hitches rides with friends if she needs to go places. Hope this helps. Campus and Dodge are beautiful!!! Highly recommend eating at Bruxie… its addicting.
People use bikes all over campus.

Here is some additional information for anyone who is interested in learning more about residence life at Chapman. Here are some tips that will help you get settle in comfortably during your stay at Chapman. When you fill out the residence life questionnaire, it is important to select the correct type of roommates you want to room with. If you are a partier, be sure to select the partying type. If you are a non-partier, be sure to select non-partier type, otherwise you may end up with someone who likes to party all the time, and you may not be able to get peace and quiet. It is nice to have that option. Here is the residence life link to guide you through the process.
