Dodmerb Eye Exam

I just had my eye exam yesterday and it did not go very well (the actual physical was fine). I knew I had bad eyesight, but according to the doctor people with 14 diopters never got inot the academies. Does anyone know of someone who had 13 or 14 diopters when they took the eye exam? How did it turn out? My grades, SAT scores, and extra curiculars are above average, but should I still pursue this? Any help/advice would be greatly appreaciated!

umm.. is a waiver not possible for something like this? Is it correctable?

If this is what you really want to do, then pursue the appointment vigorously. The only people who can tell you that you will not be appointed are from West Point Admissions. That said, start prepping for the next ACT and SAT. Your grades are trending upwards which is a good sign. Now try to get your scores up. Apply to each of your nomination sources right away and update all parties with any new information, (i.e. honors, sports - varsity or team captain.)

One of the most important criterion is your congressional district and how competitive it is. In some states, National Merit finalists who have been multiple letter winners do not receive an appointment. In other districts the competition is less dramatic.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Yes my eyesight is correctable to 20/20, but the eye doctor said that the military might think I'm a medical liability. The reason my eye sight is so bad is because my retna is stretched kind of like an egg. Thus in extreme situations like boxing/ combat hard blows to the head could result in a "detached retna."

Thank You for the advice conserning my grades/SAT scores. It will be something that I can do that will help my chances.

Fortunately, The West Point counceslor of my region said that I am in a weak congressional district (Indianapolis, IN District #7). This can be contributed to the location I live (just outside downtown Indy) and the poor public highschools within the area.

Thank You again for the advice and please keep it coming.

Wow, they can tell you that much? Whose the west point counselor for the west coast? Or... how can I get in contact with him?

This guy said he was available for questions when they sent me my initial form with the ID and PASSWORD to log into the website. His name and email were on the sheet.
