Dodmerb issues

DoDMERB can be an obstacle to the application process, but the majority of it is about persistance.

It’s far back now, but when I was applying my first time (back in 2000, lol), I was disqualified by DoDBERB. Then I ran out of time to provide a sufficient rebuttal by the time I was supposed to leave for inprocessing. (Less than a week before inprocessing, I had still not gotten a final answer!) When I applied the second time, I easily got a waiver.

My issues were due to dental malocclusion, by the way. In other words, my front teeth don’t close all the way. They also noted my top four teeth in front do not have enamel, so they thought I had acid reflux of bulimia. However, the bottom line is that I did eventually get to USAFA. I just had to do a little more work than planned to get there! :)

I stand corrected on the military facility use. Incredible that they had room for that type of work considering they can’t even keep their appointments open for active duty people  ha.

Yeah, that’s happened to me - I had childhood asthma and they asked for ALL MEDICAL RECORDS FROM BIRTH TO PRESENT (I had it worse haha)

I also had to give away my life story medically. No worries though.

They asked for my entire medical history as well, the file looked like a giant textbook! (I have broken A LOT of bones)

I read through this and you guys make it sound OK, then you look at other forums and the military forum, and it is a nightmare. If they find something, it seems to take so long to get anything done, even if you get the records to them right away.

I think the DoDMERB aspect of the military academy forums is a joke. They want you to email, etc. just to keep how bad they are off their forum. They have DD doing a remedial for “heartburn.” She has never had heartburn. When asked about heartburn, she thought they meant an ache or burn you feel when running, etc. She did not know what heartburn was! And they have her down as taking medication for it. She has never taken any medication for anything.

Anyway, it is just crazy! Wish we had done the physical in the summer! Get it done early, so if you have to fight them, you will have lots of time!

It’s a government organization. They have LOTS of procedures to follow.

I suggest you have your family doctor follow the remedial procedures DoDMERB asked for. If there is no history, you might want your daughter and doctor to include letters explaining the situation.

If you were refering to the DoDMERB section on the Serviceacademyforums site, I recommend reading the 2nd sticky on there. Many government computer systems restrict access to forums. The e-mail procedure keeps things organized and timely. I can attest to the fact that trying to access government computer systems from home does not always work well, even when it is designed to do so.

I’ll 2nd the advice to get things started early.
