I just got a postcard from the Medical Examination Review Board and I was wondering if someone could tell me what is the latest it’s safe to schedule an appointment?

Trust me, don't wait- if you can do it sometime in the next few weeks, do it. I had an issue with getting some xrays done, and at that time, they didn't offere me the option of having a civilian doctor do them for me without my family paying for the whole thing. We had to scramble to get them done at a military base, which is a lot harder to do then you'd think, specially living in the Springs, with its five military bases. Then there was the whole issue of them forwarding the results... and this was done ON the air force academy itself, at the hospital. Luckily, my exam was early enough in the summer (and I didn't have a large degree of scoliosis, which was the reason for me remedial) that the whole month it took to get the process done didn't interfere with school.
I'll also tell you the story of my classmate who may or may not be going to West point now- haven't talked to him since school ended. He was DQ'd by a peanut allergy, and had not heard anything (no offer of appointment, no LOA, no DODMERB stuff) on May 25. Last time I checked, west point's class seemed to be full at that point. Incidently, that's also another really good examply of how NOT to put off the nomination process, but that's another story that I don't have all the details on yet.
Long story short: get it done NOW. You can schedule it any time that's best for you. if your senior year was as hectic as mine was, then DODMERB's just not something you want to be dealing with. Latest is probably August, but again, you never know what remedial they'll come up with that'll draw out the process even longer. My civilian doctor never told me about my scoliosis- it was a total surprise. I was mad...

I'll second that. With ANYTHING in this process, the sooner the better. With DoDMERB they should send you a letter with instructions about your exam, you have to schedule your appointment within five days of receiving that letter. Just the sooner the better.

thanks. that helps...

I third that. For instance, if your appointment is too late and you need any waivers (even if you are sure this won't be necessary for you), they may not get processed in time, resulting in a disqualification.

I just broke my thumb at boys state this week... is this going to be a problem on the dodmerb exam? also, the doctor said it should be healed in about 4 weeks. thanks

haha boys state. i loved it.

If its healed and won't cause further problems, the doctors will clear it after a check up once its healed. You'll just be flagged till then, but no big deal. I had a broken nose 4 weeks prior to I-day that was cleared without a problem.

I just got back from Boys' State, but luckily I wasn't breaking any thumbs or anything. Some of the Marines we had there though looked like they wanted to break the bones of some of the jokers we had there.

On topic though, I got my appointments set up last night and completed all the other stuff for DODMERB. They are at the end of July.
