Does a college known for math want to see high math scores on your transcript?

The colleges I'm applying to are all known for math, but on my transcript, my highest subject grade is for Music/Art. My math grade does not stand out from other core subjects like English and Science. Do colleges known for a certain major (Engineering and Cooper Union), like to see high scores on the core subjects that relate to their well-known major?

e.g. a high science grade for St. John's University who has a strong pharmaceutical field etc.

Yeah they probably do since that is what they are known for and also depends on what department you are applying to. So if you’re applying for a business, you’ll need good math scores and just a good overall GPA.

Of course! In fact, I was talking with the dean of admissions at MIT recently, and he told me “the bottom line is, we truly only care about math and science! chuckles” So, if you are set on a school with strong math background, then find ways to express your love of math along with your other passions in your essay, interview, etc… and you’ll be fine!

but remember, although transcript is important, it is not the only admission factor…

“…my highest subject grade is for Music/Art”
^This will be a problem for most colleges and not limited to only colleges with strong science and math departments.

Colleges focus on the core academic classes when reviewing applications: English, History, Science, Math, Foreign Language

They recalculate your GPA based on the Core subjects listed above. Take away the grades in your electives (music and art) and recalculate your gpa.

It would be ideal, but really they’d like to see high scores in the subject area that you are interested in studying at their school.
