Does a "drop" F go into your GPA?

This year (senior year) I took Honors Physics against my better judgment. It does not look like I will pass the class (finals are next week). My question is, should I drop the class? Usually after the first 6 weeks, when you drop a class you receive a W or a F. Because my grade is low, I will probably receive the F. I know this F will show up on my transcript, but will it go into my GPA? This is very important, because I can't risk having my GPA going any lower.

If I continue the class and get a F or a D, then I can retake it at a C.C. during the spring semester and the grade I recieve there will be averaged with the F or D... but I'd rather not do that, and it's nearly impossible because the classes conflict with normal school hours.

I mean, colleges won't even see the F (the withdrawal F) until I am accepted.... would they rescind for that, even if I called and explained? I have other things going for me (my grades were always my weak point).

TL;DR: Does a drop F calculate into your GPA?

How about you ask your counselor/principle?
Schools' policies differ.

I thought only colleges allowed students to withdraw after a specific date.

it would probably go in your GPA, i can't see it not going in.

I was riding on an horse.

Usually you get an F in the class if you don't do most of the homework/labs or are missing tests. Ask your teacher if you can make up some of the tests/homework instead of dropping the class. Even if you fail the tests, I can't really see anyone getting an F if all their work is done with effort.
