Does a higher SAT score make up for a lower GPA?

Well when I see a someone with a high GPA but low SAT, I typically assume it's because of grade inflation. Which it usually is.

Or that they're simply at their limit in HS.

yeah, another thing is the randomness of High School. I mean, practically no 2 schools use the exact same GPA system, no two high schools offer the same course partitions (honors vs APs, etc) and practically no two teachers are of the same difficulty. I think adcoms know this- I mean, so a kid got straight As in "honor" courses. So what? In my school, honors courses are the highest there are, and very selective to get into, but at another school, it may be as easy as signing up on time. There's really and truly no way to "standardize" GPA/grades (hell, two teachers teaching the same course can give entirely different grades to teh same student). This is why colleges rely on your GC and teacher recs, b/c they cant necessarily trust GPA.

well if you think of it, I think a person with a high SAT and low GPA would be a better candidate b/c most colleges/universities (to my believe) base your grade on your test scores. Not on hws or class attendance or any of that sort.
I happen to be one of those with high sat and low gpa (well at least to this point sat iis, i have yet to find out my sat i scores)

and while we're at it, what do you guys think of this:
my average in ap french language is ~84, my sat ii is 750. (not a native, obviously) what do you think?
