Does a negative grade trend really hurt?

Well I know that Stanford doesn't look at freshman year grades.

But do they look just at the numbers, or at how they've gone?

I had all As Freshman and Sophomore years, then about half As and half Bs last year. This year first semester I also have about half As and half Bs. There is one grade that's really concerning me (AP Bio) and there is a slight chance I could end up with a C.

If I get a C, does that basically kill my chances? What about with all the Bs?

It depends on the course load - taking AP courses is a much greater feat than taking regular or sometimes even honors courses, so a B say AP English wouldn’t be bad if you had an A in 9th grade in a regular English class. A C won’t “kill” your chances, but it won’t help you either, so just do your best to get it up to a B. As for all the Bs, as long as you have a rigorous course load, it won’t kill your chances either.

Yeah it def. would hurt your chances, although I wouldn’t be too worried about your junior year if you were taking a bunch of APs. You could consider sending in AP scores if they are better than the grade.

they really don’t like to see a negative trend, so as missy jo says, work on that C

If you can’t handle APs, you’ll have a hard time at Stanford.
