Does a recommendation from an alumni increase your chances of getting into a college?

My teacher is an alumnus of a university that I am applying to. I was thinking about getting a recommendation from him, even before I looked into this university. If I got a great recommendation from my teacher, would it increase my chances of getting accepted?

(My teacher is an alumnus of the graduate program for this university, but I am applying undergraduate)

No it will not.

BUMP please

If you are just asking this teacher because he went to “X” school, it would not be beneficial in anyway. However, if what you said is true - thinking about asking him before you figured out his connection to “X” school - then it could potentially be a plus.

I think it would help if he/she says something like, “As ‘x’ alumni, I believe ‘y’ has ‘z’ qualities that make him a good candiate for ‘x’.”

Does the school specifically ask for letter of recommendations? If not then I’d say no.

"Does the school specifically ask for letter of recommendations? If not then I’d say no. "

Even if it does, the answer is still NO. Even if you bump this thread, the answer is still NO.

Back in the day (several decades ago) when colleges were finishing schools for the rich, having a member vouch for you meant something. Not so much today…
