Does a sibling at Princeton help?

I really don't think it has much of an effect, but it might help a little. For instance, in the Amherst Admissions video that was on pbs, the committee was discussing a candidate and brought up that he/she had a sister at the school who was "wonderful," which is apparently a plus.

I don't like my sibling is that known at Princeton right now. Does legacy matter that much if the donations aren't huge(aka donating a building haha)?

*like=think

I had a friend who applied to Princeton last year with great stats. Her brother went there and she still didn't get in.

So...no, I don't think so.

Well it obviously depends on your other stats. It's not gonna get a sucky applicant in, but school like princeton love alums and all those family connections.

im sure its used as one of those "if there were a tie the winner would be the sibling" kinda like the alumni-ness

exactly how much does alumni status help? is it only a tie breaker thing if your parent went to princeton or is it a distinct advantage. also, does pton distinguish b/w undergrad and grad alumni or do they just love both?

I don't think it's a distinct advantage, but usually the kids of alums do better in school because they've been taught to value that and such, so it's many factors combined.

If the sibling is receiving massive financial aid, you may want to try another Ivy; unless there is some other tip factor.

i wish my last name were frist...

I agree with zantedeschia about legacy advantage. I wish it was a distinct advantage though:)

how do you make it known if family members other than parents went to a school? i thought they only asked for info about the parents?

if u have had a sibling in college u put that down in the "SIBLING" section

why cant my sister be in princeton? How come my parents are URM's, or legacies for that matter? If i don't get in, it's my family's fault.... Just kidding. But I wish i wasnt.

hmmmm. my aunt and uncle went to princeton. i don't suppose that's terribly important to them, though?

I don't think that matters very much. Do they even have a space for that?

It definitely has some effect, although it's debatable whether that's more or less than legacies. One of my close friends had a brother 2 years older than he was and he got in. I still think he could have gotten in normally, but that really boosted him.

It depends on how helpful is your sibling in general... ;)
