Hello!
So I’m registered for 17 hours & I’m thinking of withdrawing from a class. I’m not doing this because I currently have a bad grade, but I really don’t like this class (it causes a lot of stress). That sounds like an excuse, but it’s a required class for my track & I know I’m not happy with the track I’m in now. There’s also a bit of pressure since I have my AA and need to finish my degree in 2 years (both my parents & I agree on that).
Thinking of having a W on my recird is not easy, but I know I’m unhappy with the track I’m on. I have a 3.4 average going into the university I’m at. At the community college I previously attended, with the exception of 3 Cs, I am an A/B student. Ultimately, will withdrawaling from this class look bad on my record or negatively impact me down the road? Thank you.
It might depend on what you want to do after college, but in general, one W isn’t going to kill you. If you have tons of W’s that might be a concern, especially if you’re planning on applying to a graduate or professional school, but one isn’t that big of a deal. If you’re just planning on getting a job after school, employers most likely aren’t going to see your transcripts at all so will most likely never know. And if they do find out, I doubt they’d ever care.
But are you planning on changing tracks so that you don’t need this class anymore? Or are you just not happy with the track you’re in? Would dropping this class affect your ability to graduate in 2 years? Even if you end up not needing it for your major, schools also have requirements for the number of units you need to graduate. It likely won’t matter, but since you said your under pressure to graduate in 2 years, have you thought about how taking less units/classes this semester will affect that?
I think it will definitely have an impact on your academic record but I believe you can top it with extra curricular activities maybe? volunteering might be a good idea.
