Does academic renewal affect admission decisions?

I had an academic renewal regarding to the 2 PE classes I took back in 2004 (when I was a sophomore in high school.)

Also my first year grades at CCC were horrible. (W's, D's, C's) but it went up from 1.8 to 3.4 during summer.

I'm doing better this semester. (20 units, GPA 3.8~4.0) I'm just really scared that the admission officer will look at my past and say," she was a loser, we dont want her."

It's so frustrating=(

MY BACKGROUND:

major: Asian American Studies
TAP: UCLA/Honors Certified by Spring
Current GPA: 3.39 Fall 08: 3.8~4.0
EC: a lot!
Personal Statement: decent ?!

seeing as how your D's are factored out of your GPA, i'd say yeah, it affects decisions.. positively.

also, an upward academic trend, from what i've heard, is looked upon pretty favorably.
i'm in the same boat, with a 3.45 cum., but combined 3.76 if considering the last three semesters + summers. i really think we should be alright.
best of luck.

thanks pinkerfloyd.
I feel a lot better now.
Will you be honors certified(UCLA TAP) by spring? I'm doing that right now...

I heard it helps a little bit. heheh

unfortunately, no.
i didn't know about any such thing until the beginning of this semester (after which, i'll have racked up near 70 units). my grades were so bad that my counselors didn't take me seriously when i told them i wanted to get it together and end up at a top UC.
my gpa, as is, is right on par with phil majors at ucla, making my statistical probability (based simply on gpa) 89%. a little behind on berkeley's average, but again, given the consistent, and dramatically upward moving trend, i feel like i've got as good a shot as anyone.

i'll be on wandering aimlessly about this forum til we hear back.
i'll let you know how it goes.

nope... wont hurt for UCs but it will still affect you for privates

ya I know. USC "doesn't honor academic forgiveness" ...so I'm not even gonna try to apply to private schools..hehe

Pinkerfloyd, we are so similar!!except I did the honors program over the summer..I took one anthropology class and got an A...(they didn't even let me in at first coz of my bad GPA)

oh mann, I hate waiting like this!I heard UC's pay close attention to Fall 08 grades...I seriously worked my butt off...but next semester is gonna be a lot easier. a couple B's won't kill us..LOL

yeah, usc can suck a dyck.
bunch of elitists who think they're on par with Yale.

I was told by a transfer advisor that one or two B's for fall grades won't hurt.. yeah... i'm only taking 3 classes this semester, looking at one potential B that i'd rather not have to deal with.
ahhhhhhhh, the wait is really getting to me.
did you talk about your 'epiphany' in your essays?

no, but I kinda talked about it in optional prompt 3,,in a few sentences..
I mean, the admission can probably see improvements.
