So I've taken the ACT earlier (30 first sitting w/out preperation, 33-34 on practice tests while reading prep book), but I'm taking the SAT for the first time on March 8, two weeks from now. So my question is;

Is my studying for the ACT sufficient to cover the SAT, or should I ditch the ACT book for awhile and get a specific SAT guide?

I know they test different areas, but I was under the impression that the major differences were in testing strategies and lower level math on the SAT, not really general knowledge stuff...

Your ACT test preparation should definitely help, and you probably don’t have to do nearly as much prep, but it’s a good idea to do some SAT-specific preparation, particularly in the vocab and essay (if you didn’t take the SAT essay). I did it the other way around; had a lot of SAT prep but took the ACT without any additional preparation. I managed to score a 32, but probably could’ve scored in the 34-36 range if I studied more. Oh well.

But given your high ACT score, you should score at least reasonably well on the SAT with no preparation, but you can definitely score higher.

Act requires you to pace yourself well. Many who do not do well on it do not finish each section because of the time limits. I would find a vocabulary sat book and practice it, as well as sat practice tests. Your ACT prep will help you also.

My AP Comp teacher is giving us vocab quizzes nearly every class of about 10 words each - free points, and great SAT practice.

Haven’t taken the SAT, most people say its harder than the ACT, but there are many people who do better on it than the ACT because they understand the way it tests much better.

One last question, about how accurate have you seen PSAT scores to be in terms of actual test results? I scored a 210 on the PSAT sophomore year, but only a 192 as a junior…
