Dandrew and Parkermom: I hate to be a killjoy, but this happened to us too – without a good outcome. In fact, we assumed it was good news – so close the end date. The good news is that it didn’t matter because we got what we wanted elsewhere. But in terms of being predictive, I don’t think last minute calls mean it’s all a done deal.

Well said @wcmom1958.

You have done so many families a service with that post.

The call for more info MAY mean a family is close to the finish line. But it doesn’t mean the student will cross it in the final analysis. A lot of families received bad news last year after a few posters jumped on the boards and pumped up their hopes.

The answer won’t come until it does. No use reading into the tea leaves.

Let me see if I can get it across:

Well, I wasn’t attempting to read the ‘tea leaves’ and definitely didn’t see this contact from the school as a sign that child was “in”, so to speak. Like I said, no one knows the outcome until Saturday at the earliest. Actually, I guess someone knows the outcome before then, just not us! :)

If anything, the phone call gave us cause for concern regarding potential financial aid and/or the affect that our need for financial may have on the ultimate outcome.

Mostly, I was just posting in reply to the title of this thread which asks if schools ever contact families this late in the game. This is our first experience with boarding school applications, but not our first experience with financial aid. Child has been a day student at another school since elementary, and receives financial aid.

We are all too familiar with how difficult it is for schools to allocate their money and we know that our financial needs can hinder our child’s chances.

Best of luck to all! It will be a long week for sure.

Parkermom, congrats on your child’s admission to Exeter! How did the FA work out?
