Does age matter?

I will be applying to university as a 16 year old, but will be 17 when I am actually attending university. Will this affect my admissions?

No, it's fairly common.

It shouldn't at most schools, I'm 17 and just completed my first semester.

Im in just the opposite situation. I will be 19 going into my first semester of college and will turn 20 during that first semester.

Nope, I'm also applying at 16.

im 16 also.
i am graduating a year early though and i had to explain that with an extra essay

I had the same deal when i was your age. It won't make a difference in admissions but you should consider the difference it will make when you relate to your peers. For instance, you won't be able to go to many concerts your freshman year (not yet 18). Also, birthdays tend to be celebrated at bars during junior and senior year (not yet 21). You can't really do anything about this but if you have the opportunity to get a fake id, consider it.

The only real issue is that many younger applicants haven't taken the time to really develop ECs and gain leadership roles. In my experience colleges will not give you a break if you haven't done this so an extra year in high school is usually worth it if you're aiming for highly selective schools.
