<p>Yes, but more prestige comes with what you actually got on the AIME.
There’s a difference between an AIME qualifier who got a 3 and a AIME qualifier who got an 8</p>

I think that depends on the AIME…some years a 3 isn’t too bad a score. However, last year, an 8 really wasn’t too hard to get. Colleges like MIT or Caltech will probably compare your score to the average score on that particular test.</p>
