does all-girls hinder experience?

same question as above... if any current students or alum can answer this question... i'm very interested in the school but am hesitant about an all-girls experience... how was/is yours?

I feel exactly the same way. Let's hope those MIT boys will visit...a lot...

I'm a brand new Wellesley girl, but I'll give answering this a shot. Attending a women's college will not "hinder experience". What it will do is change the experience. I'm not going to tell you that 4 years at Wellesley will be like 4 years at BU. They won't be. But during your time at Wellesley, you will likely develop closer friendships with other girls than you could at a co-ed college. It's not your typical college experience- the campus is fairly tame (in terms of parties- although it's incredibly beautiful). But in an all female environment, you will be given opportunities that a co-ed college may not be able to provide. Women hold all the leadership positions. Women are always the ones who excell in math and science. The education of women is the primary goal of the college, and they do a great job of it. The statistics on women's college graduates are ridiculous:

Women's college graduates make up only 2% of the college-educated population, yet:

One-third of the women board members of the Fortune 1000 companies are women's college graduates.

Women's college graduates are twice as likely to earn Ph.D.s and a higher percentage go on to study in the sciences and attend medical school.

Of Business Week's 50 highest ranking women in corporate America, 30 percent are women's college graduates.

Of 61 women members of Congress, 20% attended women's colleges.

As for boys- if you want them and you look for them, you'll find them. If you expect them to show up at your dorm room door and ask you out, you won't find them. You'll need to take initiative and get into Boston, but it can certainly be done.

Best of luck with your college search.
