I know this question must've been asked hundreds of times before me, but does it mean anything specific for your admission chances if Yale and Harvard gave you an interview for RD, 4 days after you submitted your common app (a pretty quick response seeing as how many SCEA applicants didn't even receive an interview request). Would these schools give an interview to just about anyone who applied for admission or is there a stats limit? Could it be that I just live close to an alumni?

My guess is the latter. Most SCEA applicants did not get offered an interview because of a lack of alumni in their area. You must just have plenty of alumni (or perhaps very few SCEA applicants in your area, so RD applicants are getting handed off?).

Can someone else confirm my thoughts?

Yes, you probably just live in an area with many alums.

@overachiever92: Have you submitted all of your application materials, or only the Common App? Just curious as to whether they wait for a file to be complete before offering an interview.

No I’ve sent in my supplements and SAT scores as well, but I still haven’t sent in my official transcripts and such.

"Would these schools give an interview to just about anyone who applied for admission or is there a stats limit? "

The goal is for everyone to be interviewed. When your info is sent to local interviewers, there’s no correlation with your stats, etc. Frankly, no human eye has probably looked at your stats yet – the only criteria is that your app is complete.

You could be a shoo-in candidate or a zero-chancer. You still would have been contacted the way you were. Sorry but your scenario is no indication of your chances.

Thank you T26E4, that’s all I wanted to know.

Glad to help. Good luck
