Does anybody actually enjoy reading textbooks and novels?

Okay I hate reading for no purpose but I will read if I have to for school. The people that get into IVY's do they all enjoy reading? I want to get into the top 30 schools but I feel reading is very important but I can't stand doing it. Are their a good amount of people that actually dislike reading but get into a very good university/college?

err if your question is that do you have to like to read to get into an IVY, than the answer is no. but i mean i can’t imagine any of them not having finished a book so they mustve forced themselves to enjoy reading lol. as for me, yea i enjoy reading novels- depends though. and textbooks? LOL.

Well I’ve finished plenty of books. What I meant was I will read if it has a purpose like for school. I just don’t read novels because I like reading. I actually dislike it and find it really boring.

^ yes it has a purpose for school, you may just not recognize it. my writing inspiration and ideas come from books themselves, so yes, it does have a purpose.

I love reading and couldn’t imagine disliking it. That’s a foreign concept to me. I never go anywhere without having a book with me – I feel naked without one.

I like reading novels for myself. As for textbooks… not really. But when I have to read my biology textbook I always read more than I am supposed to. It’s interesting :]

i like reading textbooks, especially the footnotes :). novels are good too. but then again i’m not applying to the ivies, well maybe one.

I honestly know someone who reads physics textbooks for fun.

I personally do not read textbooks for pleasure, but I enjoy novels on a regular basis. :')
Oh, and my top choice is Columbia.

Novels? Very rarely.

Textbooks? No.

But you should probably try really had to enjoy reading because it willjust make your life easier in college.

You have to find the right novels. People that’ll read and enjoy anything are literary whores. But if you can’t enjoy anything, than that will be a problem.

Some textbooks are fascinating reads; others aren’t. Like novels, they vary.

I absolutely love reading. I’ll read anything

As far as textbooks, the American Pageant is awesome
it reads like a novel

I like reading for no purpose. What I hate is when the school assign the lamest books to read during the summer. Spark notes is** win.**

I actually get what your saying. Though I do sometimes read novels, they frequently annoy me, I mostly read a crap load of nonfiction. I like authors like Malcolm Gladwell and books like Freakonomics. As for text books, I read a good part of my bio book before school started because it was fascinating, but otherwise, I definitely don’t enjoy reading text books.

Haha… Okay, I’m not the only who thought the American Paegant was enjoyable to read. (Just making sure I’m still sane). But I personally feel a lot of textbooks are poorly written, except American Paegant, which had more personality and substance.

If I’m forced to read something, chances are I’m not gonna be as open-minded. I hate being told what to do and what to read. Usually, once in a while, I’ll pick up something good to read, like a novel (that’s usually when I start feeling a little insecure about the fact that I have very little outside literary exposure).

Maybe not textbooks… Novels and books on science and math and stuff.

I enjoy reading novels. I’m not a big fan of textbooks. I’m sorry, but I’m reading/taking notes from American Pageant right now and it’s not the most exciting thing in the world:/, though it is informative:>

I’ve read less then 15 books in the last 4 years.

About 3 billion books are sold in the US per year. A significant number of them are novels, and no one’s buying that many for school.

I sort of hate aliteracy, so I’m biased, but I love reading and couldn’t imagine not doing it. I can usually only get in about 40 per year. Some of the novels for school I enjoy, but usually not. If I know that a book I like is coming up for school, I’ll wait to read it so I don’t have to repeat. I waited a year and a half to read Crime and Punishment after getting it from a friend for Christmas. Most textbooks I don’t enjoy, but some, namely Kleiner & Mamiya, are cool. I read grammar books for fun, but I guess those aren’t textbooks.

^ YOU READ GRAMMAR BOOKS FOR FUN?!

Lmfaao. That’s cute hahahah.
