I am a freshman at GWU. I think GWU should be in USNews' top 50. I mean come on. I mean its acceptance rate is on par with the Wake Forests and U. of Rochesters of the world. Although one of the most expensive schools, it gives more FA than any other school. I will venture to say that GWU gets better speakers than any school in the country (we've had Hillary Clinton, Robert Gates, Michael Moore, Jeb Bush, Joe Wilson, Bob McDonnel, and various other congressmen). I mean the school is in the ideal location with ideal internship opportunities. The dorms are amazing; I can look out my window and see the Potomac and the Washngton Monument, despite the fact I am in the cheapest dorm. Each room has a private bathroom. Each room has weekly maidservice. We have a division 1-a basketball team and other competitive athletic teams. Honestly why is this school ranked so low?

Counts for 1.5% of the ranking.

None of those are included in the ranking criteria.

Any other questions?

Okay, I’m just going to blow your minds here.
Get ready for a shocker:
The rankings suck. (OMG!)

Just saying, why is any of this news?

I had GW on my list. But it didn’t make the 10 private/OOS colleges that I’m applying to. I liked the brochure that I got from the Eng and applied sciences. Looked like they have a ton of grant money, $121M for 10K undergrads. But something was off - like only 64 engineering graduates (9 in EECS) out of 2485 graduating seniors.

Probably great for International Relations (520 graduates per year!)

bosoxnm3, do you know a guy called Myles Tucker? He’s my neighbor and is a freshman this year (from Boston too!)

I think GW is all the more awesome because the kids going there DIDN’T care that it wasn’t top 50. And that the school doesn’t really care, either.

Given that it has a page devoted to rankings, I beg to differ.

bosoxnm3,

I am not sure what exactly you meant by “GWU gives more FA than any other schools”. But GWU students do graduate with higher debt than national average (13% higher).
[George Washington U. graduates average more than $30,000 in debt | UWIRE](http://www.uwire.com/Article.aspx?id=4408006)

Why the continued thrashing around about what a school is ranked once you start there and like it? It’s as if you still need show your school is high on a list to feel good about your decision.

Maybe next year USNEWS will will change their ranking structure again (similar to when they eliminated a Tier 2 and made all the top-half scoring schools Tier 1). Maybe they’ll go #1, #1.1, #1.2,…#49.8, #49.9, #50. Then everyone can feel good about themselves.

^There’s your problem right there.

I disagree. I think GWU is overrated.

If money is no object, sure. Otherwise its probably about right if not a little overrated.
