Does anybody except me not care about finding a job?

this is an interesting thread

To be honest, I don’t think the problem is specifically that people lack the exact requirements. It’s more about mindset. I think people who don’t really care about getting a job can have a pretty hard time getting out of that mindset, which can hamper their career advancement.

After all, if you love what you do in school so much that you forget about jobs, then it’s pretty likely the jobs you pursue will be boring, and your mind will be wandering.

Those who get their minds under control may be a different story, however.

Also, someone who starts looking for a job the day after graduation will likely have a harder time finding a job than someone who started looking early, making full use of the career center while still at school. The early job seeker may have started in freshman or sophomore year by looking for summer internships and the like which will be looked more favorably upon when getting a job at graduation.

Not if it involved taking on a huge amount of debt that will be very difficult to pay off. Earlier generations faced much smaller university costs, and more favorable opportunities with any bachelor’s degree, since fewer people back then had bachelor’s degrees.

It is fine to major in whatever you like, even if the major-specific job and career prospects are not that good, as long as you know what you are getting into, including whether any student loan debt will be manageable after graduation. The idea of “study whatever you want, worry about job, career, and student loan debt later” is what gets people into the large amount of student loan debt with no or low paying job situations.

Many managers at engineering companies need to have some knowledge of the engineering being done in order to be effective managers.
