I've been looking into Macalester .. and I think that I would like it. However, I was just wondering if anybody had been on campus. I would like to know about their music program and the general atmosphere (social, class size, prof/student relations, surrounding city).

Thanks!

My husband went to Macalester and we live in the twin cities, so we are on the campus from time to time. It's really a great place. There is a solid music reputation and they have a very diverse student body. The surroundings are very special. It has a traditional small campus feel: lots of well established trees and open spaces, yet it's very close to two cities. Grand Avenue runs along one end of the campus and it has blocks of interesting shops and coffee houses etc., not the big chain places, more quaint stuff. You should visit. Did you know Koffi Anan is a grad? It's a highly desireable college and hard to get into.

Try sending a PM or email to a poster named Reidmc. He has personal and in depth insight of Macalester, both past and present, and is very helpful. Feel free to tell him that Carolyn said you should contact him. :)

Also, moocow961 is currently a sophomore at Macalester and an occasional poster here.
