Does anybody know how UMass is with AP acceptance?

My son is quite likely headed to UMass for comp sci and I am wondering how UMass is with AP credits? He will graduate with 8 AP classes, so far all 5s except for one 4.

His older brother was able to enter his college with enough credits where he was just shy of being a sophomore because of APs. Wondering if UMass will be similar?

Thanks. I did see that I was just curious if anyone had experience, did they have any issues, etc

Keep in mind that if your child is targeting grad school, some programs want to see all required courses on their transcript. Testing out of those classes could make a person a less competitive candidate.

YES! UMass Amherst is great about accepting AP credit (and CLEP, and dual enrollment classes, and classes taken during the summer at other institutions). They were better about it than a neighboring state’s flagship state U.

This can make it easier to finish early, do a double major, or even to be graduated with two undergrad degrees.

If the student is uncertain as to whether to take advanced placement as allowed by the college’s AP policy, the student may want to try the old final exams of the courses allowed to be skipped to check knowledge of the material based on the college’s standards. That can give a more informed placement decision.

If the student is a pre-med, see FAQ Pre-med courses, AP/IB/etc. credit and college/DE courses, etc. for other things to consider.
