Does anyone apply to Harvard for Engineering?

I was just wondering, in my mind harvard is all liberal arts type people, and is Harvard Engineering easier to get into than one might think?

Harvard excels in all academic areas. However, I don't think it's easier to get into Harvard Engineering. Everyone's applying to Harvard College, and you chose your concentration within the college. I would think that unless you were planning on majoring in something truly rare, then your intended major, or lack thereof, would not impact your admissions decision.

So does that mean that unlike at most colleges where you would apply to Blah University College/School of Engineering, at Harvard, everyone applies to Harvard College and everyoen is evaluated from there?

Yes. Here's the quote from the catalog: "Today, all undergraduates, women as well as men, attend Harvard College, a unified, coeducational undergraduate experience."

Everyone is evaluated within the realm of Harvard College, unlike schools like Cornell and Duke.

why would you go to Harvard for engineering?
That's like going to MIT to major in the humanities.

yeah totally with staticsoliloquy on that

This would make your major seem pretentious--that you're putting it so you can get in Harvard. I mean what do you think an MIT officer would think when a person puts down some rare language major? Of course, he'll assume that you will also be applying to Harvard and you're just applying to MIT just for the heck of it. If you put down engineering for Harvard, they'll know that you will most likely apply to like MIT and Stanford as well and then end up choosing one of them instead. If you want to do engineering, then you should consider other schools.

Yeah, so that was what I was trying to asky, why would anyone apply to Harvard for Engineering?

well if someone is in love with harvard - the place/the people/the life etc. but also wants to do engineering then they could!!

MIT is among the best places in the world for economics

wow...that was kinda random

Not really :).

lol...i guess nothing's random on this board!

No way random! I guess I should start quoting people :-/

aaahhh...that's what i thought at first, but wasn't sure...:)

econ is a social science, but oh well. Just saying that MIT isn't just tech. Sloan, anyone

but random rocks anyway

yeah, that's what i had originally thought...econ=soc science...and so many schools split social sciences and humanities...
<but random="" rocks="" anyway="">
