Most college mail I couldn’t care less about, but if something really cute, I like it. UChicago stuff is always cute. Some colleges send personalized stuff, like I got a handwritten letter from a LAC, but most personalized stuff comes once you’ve been accepted.

The least special I ever felt: I got an email from a college where the formatting was messed up so it said “We want you, [XNAMEX]!” I was like, I’m pretty sure you don’t.

I always like to get mail from universities though I found out on cc ( stated by cc users) that they simply send mail out to students all the time.

I remember I got very excited when UPenn sent me an email sophomore year telling me they were “interested”, and also when Columbia sent me a brochure in the mail a couple of months ago. I’ve also received brochures from Brown and Stanford, asking me to join their summer programs.

Colleges send out mail to people on their mailing list and through the psat college search function thing. From what I’ve heard, unless it’s a serious acceptance/rejection letter or a scholarship offer, they’re either 1) trying to lure you to apply to their school so they get money from your app fee, or 2) trying to get you to join a summer program of theirs (again, alot of money being spent as usually these programs will cost thousands).

Getting college mail was a big boost to my self esteem after my sophomore PSAT. Now that I’m positive I want to major in engineering, it’s really depressing to see all these liberal arts schools wasting away the trees on someone who won’t continue reading after noting the absence of an engineering program.

I did when I first started getting them after my soph. PSAT. Now I don’t even bother opening them cos they’re all trash and junk mail and a million+ kids probably are getting the same useless letter. I like UChicago’s postcards though, those are fun.

The emails are the worst. I keep getting them from Stanford, for the summer program, but they are wasting their time, because I can’t afford 3k for a week. >.<

I requested info from a college around here. Never got anything. -not so special-
