Most the posters are that thread probably attend under-performing high schools with ridiculous amounts of grade inflation, so when people go on about 104 Weighted GPAs with 5+ APs I just ignore them and wait till College Decisions :).

Plus, if you use that thread, understand that most of the people who post there are posting to brag about their good grades. You’re not going to get a representative sample because anyone who doesn’t have really good grades isn’t going to post there. That’s like looking at a thread for the valedictorians of really high-ranked private schools and trying to use that as the standard every collegebound kid in America has to live up to in order to go to any college at all.

[You’re not alone feeling this way too.](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/544880-collegeconfidential-so-demoralizing.html)

I’ll second this. I feel exactly the same way, and I found the site last year as a freshman so I can still make use of all the things I’ve learned here.

agreed to the fullest jersey13. no matter what people say about it, it doesn’t matter until you get word from the colleges. like i said, they have requirements they have to meet too…so anything goes! unless you’re severely stupid.

just use this site as a motivator.

Now that I think of it, I realize this is probably how I’d feel in college too. Everyone’s gonna have had like a ~4.0, 2200+ SAT, TASP, Varsity something.

If it makes you guys feel any better I have 2 C’s on my transcript I hate science soooo much!! I feel really stupid compared to everyone who has amazing grades on this website

haha that grade thread shocked me a little. I don’t get how people have 103s, etc.
I go to a competitive private school, and I’m struggling to keep my A- in some classes. Honestly, if I get an A in a class, even if its just a 93, I’m ecstatic.

@ nith901: That sounds almost exactly like my private HS! So far I know I definitely have two solid A’s and B+ as my first semester grades, and I’m struggling to maintain an A- in two other classes, while I have no idea what to expect for APUSH. I really don’t know how all these people manage to get above 100% in each of their classes since that is literally impossible at my school… well, we’ll see what happens when college decisions come out, won’t we? ;)

I use this site to feel better about myself.

/arrogance

yeah, on occasion I’ve looked at posted stats and they are mostly pretty noob. A low GPA or SAT is bad, but a high one doesn’t really impress. The overwhelming majority of ECs see are either participation, school level awards, or wins in fake contests like scioly.

lololololol I didn’t mean it that way.

I meant, that I’m happy that I don’t care enough to stress about the fact that I didn’t have perfect SAT scores and whatnot. I actually like enjoying myself and having fun.

Lol.

I doubt I’m going to even put scioly awards on my app in a few years.

It used to, but not anymore.

Wow, this depresses me about scioly awards. I just started up a team in my high school for it…I think I would definitely put my medals on there. I mean why wouldn’t you? Do you really have that many better awards?

But about the grades, yea, it can get depressing when you’re scraping for an A-/A, and you see all these 103’s, but just make sure to keep it in context. Our school has people admitted to Harvard almost every year, and they get only a 94/95 average overall.

i find it encouraging.

after all, there are lots of people who share the same vein of doing multiple passions as I.

I go to a lame public high school in riverside county full of gangbangers and kids who don’t care about school. Around junior year I even started to not care so much and some of my grades dropped to C’s. I got a 2190 on my sat and everyone thinks I’m a super genius and goin to any college I want cuz it’s the highest score a student’s had in like 100 years. This site makes me feel a lot stupider for not applying myself in school. If I had found this site earlier I proabably woulda buckled down and got the A’s I should have. But the past is the past.

^look to the future my friend.

I had nearly the same “spiral-down” as yours. except, in my school, it was simply that the kids were laid back. . . maybe a little too laid back. . .

some of these posts crush my soul like crispy autumn leaves under steel boots at least it’s motivating!

@fledgling
yess, I sure hope so
plus college prep schools are supposed to prepare you for the academic rigor of college, so hopefully college will be a little easier thanks to hs
