Hi I'm a going to be a senior for the class of 2010 and I just took the SATS in june. I am going crazy and killing myself over the SATS. Before the test I prepared efficiently by taking many practice exams. I'm not that great at math so usually i would get a 500-520 range. My strongest was CR and W. I would get in the range for 600-650 for CR and 610-700 for W. I guess on the TEST DAY I sort of flipped out near the end. I usually am like this for all exams. I thought I was going to do ok but I did not.

I received a total of 1530 by getting a MATH: 440 CR: 540 W:550 and a 9 on the essay.I know this is terrible but I was SHOCKED. I knew I would do poorly in math but knew I could get at least a 500 or 510 since all my practice tests were showing that. I was confident for CR and W. I can't believe I got these scores.

I've been practicing over the summer and these are the test scores from my practice book. I am using Kaplan and the Blue book from Collegeboard.I have been studying everyday for math so I have seen a huge increase in my score.

TEST 1: M:600 CR:670 W:670
TEST 2: M:620 CR:630 W:650
TEST 3: M: 620 CR: 620 W:690
TEST 4: M:700 CR: 620 W:630
TEST 5: M:700 CR:610 W:620
TEST 6: M:630 CR:630 W:600

WHAT DO I DO? I know that there is no point of me doing well on these practice exams if I DO NOT DO WELL ON THE REAL SAT ON OCTOBER!!! DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM???! I am very worried that I will do the same on the next OFFICIAL TEST!! after all this is CC!

you seem to be taking tons of practice tests but with very little improvement in each section. are you even reviewing? just taking tests won’t help at all since you’ll make the same mistake over and over again.

I go to an asian sat prep class from 9 AM to 1:30 PM. Monday through Thursday. We take a diagnostic test every thursday.
I’ve been trying to really concentrate on math since it’s the hardest part for me. My goal is just to really get a 1920-2000, but with my nerves it seems impossible.

9AM-1:30PM Monday-Thursday??? ***. You are wasting WAY too much time in that prep class. Just buy the BB or BB2 (which you already have if I am reading your posts correctly) and follow the Xiggi Method. How is the prep class working? I mean have you seen a difference in your scores? I, for one, would NEVER waste that many hours of my life on one test. IMO it’s not worth it. But if it works for you, whatever. Just remember that the SAT is not the be-all-end-all in college admissions. Which colleges do you want to get into anyways? Remember to do other things as well. If asked “What did you do this summer?”, you don’t want to respond "I went to a SAT prep class for 5 hours Monday-Thursday…

EDIT: Maybe you just aren’t cut out for the SAT. Have you considered practicing for/taking the ACT?

Most of the kids in my area all go to a prep school. I did private tutoring before and decided to do a group thing and I guess I have seen improvements. When I was taking private tutoring my math was only 500-520. I have been taking tests from kaplan and collegeboard and have seen increases in my scores. Especially for math. I do other activities besides just going to prep class. I am a competitive swimmer who travels all over the states for competitions. I guess I sort of exaggerate that I efficiently prepped since I started prepping 2 months before the sats; I was busy with competing, my school team, practice and APs. I mean thats no excuse, but I guess truly I just needed an reality check. I thought I could get at least a 1700 for the first time and gradually increase but I was shocked with the 1530.

Yes, Kaplan is HORRIBLE. Let me type that again just so the message sinks in: Kaplan is HORRIBLE.

If the prep course works for you, by all means keep going especially since you have other ECs and, in general, a life. Collegeboard has pretty good explanations as well. I would stick with just the BB/BB2.

I just really need help with confidence. I usually find myself hesitating to pick an answer since I do not trust myself. For example I would hesitate to apply a simple method to find an answer to a math question. I just really want to know if this is only happening to me. I hope someone can give me REASSURANCE that I will do fine on the NEXT TEST since they have already gone through this experience.

I know how ur feeling dude. I keep getting varied scores on my practice tests aswell. But just remember ur doing better than u did on ur real SAT! and remember too that when u take that SAT for the last time in oct u will be focused cause u know this is the be all end all test! Practice tests tend to be lower than the real thing cause u don’t have the pressure of the real SAT.
