So I've been doing practice tests (SAT) for awhile now, and I've noticed a pretty annoying trend happening. My math and writing scores have drastically improved, while the CR is improving but here is my dilemma: out of the 3 CR sections on the test, 2 of those sections I do superb on (hardly any wrong) but the other section I do really bad (and i'm talking like 15 question wrong bad). When I review it, I usually get at least half of the sentence completions wrong, 3 out of 4 short passage questions wrong, and at least half of the regular passage questions wrong. I don't know why this is happening; comparing this section to my other two sections, you would think that it was some one else's test.

So does anyone else have this problem, and, if not, what seems to be my problem? I can't figure it out. I've done at least 3 or 4 practice tests and I've noticed this trend, and I cant seem to stop it. This problem is really dragging my score down. (Btw: the section I do bad on isn't the last CR section, it is always the first or second CR section.)

It could be the types of passages or a time issue. Try out different strategies and experiment with time to better use it.

I had this problem when I was studying for the SAT’s. the only thing you can do is keep practicing that section you’re not doing well on. do that repeatedly, and go over wrong answers every time. it’s tedious and takes forever, but I never discovered a more effective method

That’s the thing, the strat. that I developed works like a charm with two out of three sections, but for the last one it always fails me. It seems like I get the most bulls**t passages and the sentence completions with the vocab that I don’t know. Also it’s definitely not a time issue, in fact time has never been an issue for me. But oh well, I guess I just got to keep practicing.

^in that case, review vocab

I have like the sameee problem as you!! Except it always happens to me with the middle or first section. The last section is always super easy for me…This is why I can’t break 700s for Critical Reading and I’m taking the SAT again in June. If you figure out what’s wrong and have a solution please tell me I’m desperate…!

Try this is it works for my son.

Only skim the passage- cover the answers then read the question. Look for the answer in the passage then look for the answer that matches.

Hey! I also have this problem. I just finished a prep course, and the tutor helped me realize that I was rushing a bit. When I went through the CR, I didn’t realize that I was going quickly. I just went at a normal pace, and had plenty of time left over. If you consciously slow down, and take extra care looking at the question, and especially the answer choices, you should be golden!
