And why does everyone else seem to be fine with em? Who the hell eats dinner at 6 pm. I want dinner at like 8 or even 9 pm tbqh. Most of them close at 8 or even 7:30. So ****ing early.

There’s a break between afternoon classes and evening classes from 4:30 - 7 or something like that, so I guess most people eat during that break.

I always eat dinner around 6, so sucks for you

there’s several dining halls around campus with timings that go up to 8:30PM for you to walk in and eat. If a dining hall closes at 8, I used to walk in at like 7:59 and take my time eating. They don’t really “close” until 9 as in you can walk in up to 8PM but eat until 9.

There’s also c town as well if those times really dont work for you.

Lol, I’m from NYC too bro. Get ready to change. :<

Yeah the hours suck, I don’t know why everyone at Cornell eats dinner so early. The obvious solution here is to live off-campus or in a frat after freshman year. Don’t live on West whatever you do.

The late night food situation in Ithaca is absolutely atrocious in general. This is one of my biggest problems with student life at Cornell, especially since I’m from Chicago and used to having unlimited late-night options. Nothing besides the Shortstop Deli (which sucks) is open 24 hours. All of the other late night places (DP Dough, The Connection, Nasties) charge an exorbitant amount of money for essentially garbage fried in lard. Everything else closes at 9 or 10 pm. The bars also close at 1 am, which is unheard of in any decent city. We don’t even finish pregaming til 10 or 11.

Some dining halls in west campus close after 8pm. Later than that, try Nasties, West Side Express, hot truck, etc.

I was really upset about the dining hall hours too at first, but then I got used to it. Most people are fine with eating at 6:00, but not me. The good thing is that nasties is always open until 2 am which is extremely convenient when you have a late night. I think the food is pretty decent. Also, you can make dinner in your dorm.

Guess things have changed a bit, when I was there the Ivy room was open late and people studying in Uris library used to go there in droves for “Straight Breaks”, it was a thing. Is that not the case any more?

In any event, I would recommend living in Collegetown when you can, then you have less need to care about hours of campus dining halls. My daughter’s apartment is a palace, spacewise (though not necessarily appearance-wise) compared to any dorm room.

^ monydad, the Ivy Room closes at 7pm and is only open M-F. People studying late can get coffee at Olin, but other than that, they’re out of luck.

Well, the thing is, most folks tend to eat dinner in the evenings. Moreover, the people dealing with food in the dining halls tend to spend hours in them long before they even open for dinner. Not to mention students work in the dining halls as well.

I really hope that is not true, I’m from NYC and no one eats dinner in this town until like 10PM.

What? Stop being a Manhattanite.

Wonder why they changed the Ivy room thing, that is a big change.
It was a major social scene there at night. [Not sure how much it helped for studying though].

I think the dining hours would be helpful for changing bad habits. If I have to eat dinner earlier, I’ll probably get my work done earlier and then sleep earlier! My counselor said that if you have to stay up super late, you’re probably doing something wrong (in terms of time management or studying habits.) So hopefully I can get myself to sleep before 0330 every day.
