does anyone else feel hopeless like me?
I am a sophomore at a semi target school (Umich Engineering) have a decent gpa (3.5+) , had decent but not stellar experiences...yet I have sent out resumes and cover letters to over 100 positions in the last 2 weeks (I SWEAR, more than 100)..and so far i only got 2 phone calls for interviews and 1 offer

is it just me? or is it the economy? or is it a problem with my resume or cover letter?

btw, is umich engineering considered a target school for tech, management and consulting firms and banks?

you also got into cornell and wharton, right?

i have slightly above 3.0 from cornell eng, but i had interviews w/ microsoft and goldman sachs (tech) recently, as well as cisco and i had submitted like 7 resumes. i don’t think getting interviews is that hard. what’s hard is getting past them.

for me personally its the networking that has helped me. GS recruits somewhat at BC but I networked for almost a year and now as a sophomore will be working in their securities department. I feel like its the networking that has been lacking.

lol…i started networking freshman year second semester. I stayed in touch…talked to them about products and showed my interest. I visited each and every info session on campus and was at a point that one member from Goldman could recognize me by name and face. Before i sent my application, I talked to him. Before my interview I talked to him. and then my interview was only one round for 20 minutes. I realized that since BC is not exactly IVY its through networking that I woudl be able to do this.

bearcats/ if you apply through a school career site, they notify you whether your resume is accepted/rejected within a week or two after the submission deadline.

lol allstate just called like 15 minutes ago and told me they want a preliminary interview and ask if i have time…they proceed to bomb me with questions and I am pretty sure i bombed it coz i wasnt prepared at all for a surprise interview -_-

i started to talk to them about derivatives. an alumni sent me some information about derivatives and i continued to ask questions periodically. I just showed a keen interest in the business which I have. The rest followed.
