I was waitlisted at Columbia, so I'm wondering how many students were accepted off waitlists in previous years.

You can read an old thread that’s on here…some got in…others didn’t…don’t know the real numbers.

I was waitlisted last year (Columbia saw a record number of applications). The waitlist was pretty big too, if I remember correctly. The way the waitlist at CU works is they try to fill a spot of the person who didn’t accept. For example, if a violin playing biologist dropped out, then they would look for a similar applicant to fill that spot. You guys also won’t hear back till mid-May most likely, but DEFINITELY write the extra letter.

@MJG678, what kind of things should i mention in my extra letter?
telling them how i still love their university?

Any significant updates you may have, as well as how you are still in LOVE should suffice… From what I know, many discuss the Core Curriculum. But don’t send any additional recommendations… just the letter will suffice.

Did you get off the waitlist? And is there anything big I should try now to increase my chances (ie find an internship or community service) or would that impact me negatively?

I know Columbia doesn’t release stats but can anyone give a valid approximation of the number of waitlistees / accepted?

@JamieBrown where are you getting your information from? I was told that last year there was mostly movement in SEAS list, and not much for CC…

My son is a junior at Columbia. No one was admitted from the waitlist for the class of '13.

Not exactly Columbia specific but I read an interesting article on getting off waitlists.
[Waitlisted? What Do I Do? | The Collegiate](http://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/2012/03/29/waitlisted-what-do-i-do/)

Then there’s this article which might say otherwise…
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/14/education/14waitlist.html

Ok so since this thread has been derailed, can we get back to the original question. Are there any students on CC that have been taken off the waitlist. Any approximations on how much they will take this year?

columbia does not accept a lot of people from its waitlist. for example no one was accepted off the SEAS waitlist for '13 and '14, and I beileve no one was accepted off the college waitlist either for '13. It differs by year, but the acceptances are never in the “hundreds”

I thought I saw someone in another forum say that the got off the waitlist for 2014…
