Does anyone have a Math Level 2 score higher than a Math Level 1 score?

In the January testing session,
I scored
800 in Math Level 2, and
740 in Math Level 1.

Moreover in the December 2009 testing session, I scored
720 in my Math section of the SAT reasoning test.

In addition, in the November 2009 IB exam session, I scored
7(out of 7) in the IB Mathematics Standard Level exam.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation?
How will colleges look at these scores?

800 Math II
720 Math I
770 Math SAT Reasoning

its all about the curve

I think 99.99% of people have higher math II scores :stuck_out_tongue:
I got 780 on math I first try, not planning on taking math II.

Also, I would strongly discourage sending a math I score with your math II score, no need to blemish an 800 and cause them to question it. Also, a math I score doesn’t give them any new information :P

Math I, to be honest, really is not worth taking given the severity of the curve and the fact that many colleges value Math II to a far greater extent.

For people who have taken trig and know the subject matter in the Math II test, I think that Math II scores tend to be higher because the curve is much better. I took some practice tests last year in math class, and I scored higher in Math II than Math I.

A large portion of people that take both seem to get higher scores in Math II. Your situation definitely isn’t unusual.

760 SAT I Math
800 SAT II Math

7 in IB Math HL (mock exam, which was the 2009 exam)

I tried the Math I practice papers in the College Board book and got 790 and 800, but I’d probably drop a bit in the real thing.

Eh… Don’t you think that if you, say, had 800 on both, colleges would prefer you more? The reason I say this is that an 800 on Math I is in the 99+ percentile, and would do nothing but completely confirm your 800 on Math II, which has an easy curve, thus leaving some doubt.

800 on Math II
800 on Math SAT I

Why take the Math I in the first place…? Colleges would immedietly disregard it if you have taken the Math II

What’s the Math II curve, exactly? Or, what is it usually? The Math I curve?

Math II is usually -5 questions is a 800 or something.

^yup

Math I is something like

-0 800
-1 790, 780, 770 or 760 if you’re really unlucky
-2 750ish

Very harsh curve.

Math 1 is required for harvard

… No…^

Math II is much easier. As people said above, the curve is much more forgiving. I think to get an 800 you can get up to 7 wrong. Math I is much more like the SAT I math section than anything else.

Send in your Math II sat score. Sure, Math II may have higher scores, but a 780/790 is good regardless. And…I know some colleges require math II for any science/engineering related discipline.
