I want to major in a field of engineering, I'm leaning towards Electrical but anyway.. I'm from Florida and only have one more semester to go before I get my A.A. So far I have a 4.0. FSCJ is easy.

I am currently looking at UF's program because I would transition easily into that school but I know it's not one of the top engineering schools by far.
Does anyone have an opinion on that program?
I imagine the engineering field to be competitive and I don't wanna screw myself because everyone and their mom went to Georgia Tech or something.

Yea, I really wanted to try Gtech…unfortunately before I knew I wanted to try engineering I clepped out of a few of my classes for my A.A thinking it would make things go by faster (which it did) but…they dont except those for credit so I would have to retake classes… UF will accept them so I figured Id just go with them.

Do you think where I attend school will have a big impact on getting job? Say between UF or something like Gtech?

If your community college accepted the CLEP and shows the credit on your transcript as one of their courses, then you can possibly transfer the credit into GT.

GT doesn’t give credit for CLEP. But if your college transcript shows credit for Math 103, and GT accepts Math 103 at your school as transfer credit for Math 1501 at GT, then you get credit for Math 1501. It doesn’t matter how you got that Math 1101 credit (by actually taking the course, AP credit, CLEP credit, etc).

You just need to double check that GT gives credit for you CC’s class. Just because you took Community College Calc I doesn’t mean that GT will give you credit for GT Calc I.

While UF lacks some of the power and benefits of schools like GT, the engineers and professors I have known from the school have been solid - I have nothing bad to say about them other than to say that there might be better options. Apply to both, see where you get it, see where you LIKE (because some schools will be better for YOU than others, regardless of ranking), and then make a choice. If you pick UF, it won’t be a bad choice.

UF isn’t as good at it used to be nationally, but its the best in the state and still a good program. You will have no problems getting a job in Fl. Tampa and Orlando have great job options.

But GT is the top engineering school in the south and also ranked #6 nationally.
