i have poor ACT grade(didn't even take SAT I)
but rest of application needs (such as essays, extracurricular, activities, recs..) are great.
what is my chance getting into SEAS for Early?
I am literally going crazy here.

how poor?

like 30 poor?

or like 15 poor?

like 27 or 26 poor

I have under 2000 on my SAT I and I'm still submitting my application. I am not applying early decision though. I believe that's considered low, although it's not poor by any means. I have a high GPA and a lot of extracurriculars so I should still be in the running.

thanks..
i was looking through all the accepted candidates from last years and every(!!) one has lperfect scores. and even many denied ones has perfect grades!(SAT I)
i can't wait till the result comes out.
i guess it will come out like dec 7? (from last year's result date)

Hey !!! Seems like I'm not the only one to have low SAT I scores ... ( 1900 hum ). Still, I'm a foreign applicant ! I know foreign applicants are supposed to have stellar scores on the SAT, but I disagree with that. Indeed, I think the ones who do it are those who go to international schools and take programs like IB ...

Oh, don't worry about low SAT scores. I only had a 1510 and I got in, so have some beers and chill.

I got 2160, not high by international standards.. and I don do IB or read much.. All you need to get a decent sat is the memorize the vocab, practise.. get prep books.. it isnt that hard to get 780-800 in math... 650+ in CR, W

That would be on 1600, wouldn't it?

My D wants to apply but I'm not sure if her stats are high enough:

GPA : 3.68
Rank: 34/350
AP Calculus, AP Bio, AP English ..straight A's first 9 weeks senior year.
Junior year AP Spanish, AP Chemistry (hurt grades!)
ACT: COmposite = 29, Reading 36, Math 24
SAT: Reading 680, Math 650, writing 640
Lots of activities, offices, President student council, leads in all musicals and plays, lead attorney in Mock trial, foreign exchange student scholarship to Greece for summer
Strong recs

Does anyone know of anyone with similar stats that got in?? I know of a few with better that didnt! Help!

Gatsby ... 1510 out of 1600 ?

jhl ... Do you live in an English-speaking environment ?

jhl: It's not that easy. I have been an exchange student to the States for a year, I read books only in English, on the internet I read English-only sites, I am one of the best debaters in Europe, and I studied a LOT for the SAT (two months, three to four hours a day), primarily for verbal section.

Still, I got just 630. My weakness was the vocab, even though I have memorized 2,500 new words and did all the practice tests in Blue Book and Barron's. I don't think the problem is in my smartness, I only don't have that needed feeling for the language and the basics for vocab. In Czech, my mother tongue, I score 100% on such tests.

Where are you from andykcom? At what age did you start learning English?

Oh, yeah, my score was on the 1600 scale. Bad attempt at "hoo-mar."

gatsby..
of course you got in with the score of 1510 out of 1600.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
........................im also international student with bad ACT grade but perfect in other areas.

Yeap.. I was educated in English for the past 7 years..which is the only great thing in our school system here.. we follow the british system.. maybe that helps.. but before the last 2 years.. my english was crappy like hell.. i wouldnt say it is great at all now.. but i improved.. because i used the dictionary almost 24-7 in the past 2-3 years.. but my writing style still SUCK tho..

jhl,i mean 2500?that's is too little for the SATs.you basically need to have a 12000 vocab to compare.well, 630,is not a bad grade if you only studied those 2500.

jen: my vocab spans far more beyond those 2,500 words.

Yet I have gone through several books that claimed they contained the most used words on the SATs, I have read dozens of books written in a rather luxuriant word choice and I have noted every single one, however didn't do that well on the vocab. That's because I had to spend my energy and time on learning words that an English speaking test-taker doesn't find exotic.

Be "proximity" the example - I don't recall I had seen it before I read Sophie's Choice. Even though this one was easy to learn, it prevented me from adding some other word that could be much tougher.

I only got an 1850 the first time. I was so disappointed. 630 on Writing, 600 on Math, and a 620 for the Reading portion. I'm still applying, but I know my scores will hurt me.

I got 700 in CR in my 3rd sitting after seriously studying some vocab.. Not even 2500 words.. probably 1000+.. but the vocab in Oct wasnt hard tho.. it's more towards how you answer the qns in the reading
