Thanks a lot

Ouch for Georgetown, Penn, Brown, Northwestern…

[NRC Rankings Overview: Political Science - Faculty - The Chronicle of Higher Education](http://chronicle.com/article/NRC-Rankings-Overview-/124714/)

Above are the raw numbers. I don’t understand them.

I believe these rankings are for PhD programs, not undergrads. Some of the colleges ranked on the low side may have very few PhD students in a program vs. the larger universities have large numbers of PhD students. That may affect some of the ratings.

I read an article that said this study took so long to complete that it is based on some outdated data.

^ One can use that link to play around with the S Rank (Peer Assessment) and the R Rank (NRC’s own “objective” rank):

Peer Assessment:

Harvard 1-2
Stanford 1-2
-
Michigan 3-6
NYU 3-7
Penn State 3-7
–
Rice 4-15
Columbia 6-17
Binghamton 5-20
USCD 5-18
Yale 6-17
Princeton 7-16
WUSTL 6-18
Duke 6-20
GWU 7-22
UCB 8-23
UCD 7-26
-
UIUC 10-26
IUB 11-28
Emory 11-32

Peer Assessment scores arguably serve as a more compelling criterion under which graduate programs may be ranked because academia is such a prestige-oriented profession.

general rule though in academia is who you work for and not the school you go to
