does anyone here celebrate Kwanzaa?

<p>I've never met anyone who celebrates Kwanzaa before. I know Kwanzaa was made up during the civil rights movement in the 60's, and it's supposed to celebrate African or black American culture, but i've never met anyone who actually celebrates his holiday...and i live in a diverse city with a large black population. </p>

<p>does anyone here actually celebrate kwanzaa? does your family exhange presents and stuff? do most black Americans not really bother with kwanzaa because it's so close to christmas anyway?</p>

<p>I kinda celebrate it with my family…we have a Kinara that we light, and we each get a Kwanzaa present, but we don’t do all 7 days of celebration and stuff.</p>

<p>One year my mom bought a Kwanzaa-themed holiday popcorn tin. That’s about as extensive as our holiday celebration has ever gotten. I think I’ve forgotten it even existed for the past few years.</p>

<p>I’ve tried to convince my mom to celebrate it for awhile, but needless to say that fell through.</p>

<p>I may just end up having to satisfy all the holidays all have myself a nice little Christmahannukwanzaaka.</p>

<p>Of the many black people I know, only two (plus their respective immediate families) celebrate Kwanzaa…</p>

<p>I always felt it was kind of a fake holiday. </p>

<p>I asked my mother randomly once, and she said she knew one woman fifteen years ago who kind of celebrated it. This was when we lived in a place that was probably 90 percent black.</p>

<p>I’m black and I don’t really know anything about the holiday. I know only what the original poster posted. Honestly when I was younger I would just use Kwanzaa and Hanuka interchangeably. ha ha, they kinda sound the same to me. Well anyway, Christmas is just fine for me.</p>
