I really like this school, it is my first choice but I need a few more schools to apply to. Anyone know schools simular to UIUC??

Similar in what way(s)?

Similar in that they have good psychology programs and a pretty high pre-med placement. I would like to find more schools in the Midwest within about three hours of Chicago that would be good for a B+ student. The school must have good research and volunteer opportunities for the medical field. I want a school that has a larger sort of feel to it as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

UI Chicago, Illinois Wesleyan, Bradley, Loyola.

pretty high pre-med placement.

Colleges do NOT have “pre-med placement”. The school does not “place” you into SOM and often has little to do with getting accepted.

Getting accepted to med school is about HIGH GPA and strong MCAT scores and your medically related ECs.

Besides, a school’s med school acceptance rate means nothing to an incoming frosh. Most frosh who declare themselves to be pre-med never apply to med school. So, any advertized % of a school’s acceptance rate never includes the fact that 50-75% of their pre-meds never applied to a SOM.

Take a look at Univ Iowa – a lot of Chicago area kids when we visited, not sure exactly how long the trip is from Chicago. My son was in between a B+ and an A- average, so we were looking at Iowa and Minnesota as matches and UIUC and Wisconsin as reaches.

Admission at Iowa can be readily predicted because Iowa uses the Regents Admission Index – a formula based on gpa, testing, class rank and number of core academic courses taken. You can fill out the RAI online and see if your record generates a high enough score to be admitted. Higher scores for OOS students lead to automatic merit money ($4500 per year).

The health sciences and Med school are on one side of the river, the campus is beautiful, and Iowa City a neat college town.

Good luck.

Ignore the link in Sparkeye’s post. The rankings are utter nonsense.

Thanks for the help!
