So does anyone know of any prestigious (or generally good) summer programs that are devoted to literature and creative writing? I have heard a lot of really good science and math summer programs but a writing one, no, not yet.

I don't know if it's writing exactly, but TASP is focused on humanities. The deadline is already passed, and it is incredibly hard to get into. You have to score in about the 99th percentile on the PSAT to apply, and then they accept about 10%. I didn't even get an interview. If your a sophomore, try next year.

yea tasp is devoted to a lot of writing and reading
and of course it is extremely prestigious

There is a creative writing camp ( I think 2 weeks) at Kenyon in Ohio- heard good things about it. TASP would be the most prestigious and incredible experience if you qualify ( you have next yr. to try if u are a soph. this yr.)

My friend took a creative writing class at Brown last summer. I don't know if it's the type of thing you're looking for tho. :)

If you are interested in applying to tasp (and you come across this potentially old thread) ask me any questions. I just got back last Saturday (TASP '05!). To be general, it is really an excellent program, intense, and people are crazy smart, but it is a lot of fun. You should definitely consider applying. Btw, you can be recommended by your school, it isn't necessary to score in the top 1% on your PSAT ~ of course, it wouldn't hurt :)
