Does anyone know how selective union is? I applied ED and hoping that i get in but i dont know much about there selectivity and what they look for in an applicant! Thanks

Higher than most state schools but below the Ivys. The college is located in Schenectady, New York and is park like in the middle of a city that has some economic problems. It is about 30 minutes to Albany where there are several colleges and at least one large concert venue. I have a friend who graduated from Union and went to Harvard for graduate school...so they have something going on there.

I am originally from Schenectady, and am very familiar with Union. I concur with Mr. B. The college is a nice LAC that's less selective than are places like Wesleyan, Bowdoin, Williams. It has a lovely campus and caring profs, but has the misfortune of being in a city that has major economic problems and also has crime problems because it has lost its industrial base.

Union is only a few hours drive from NYC, Boston, and is less than an hour or so from skiing and wonderful outdoor recreation and some of the most spectacular fall scenery in the world. If you go there, be prepared for lots of snow and overcast days! That's Upstate NY for you.

It's one of the very best small schools for engineering, and has very good social sciences, too.

I live about 10 minutes away from the school. I went there for a chemistry competition last year and the campus was really nice. the labs in the school are really nice too, this is probably standard but they are a big step up from high school, really cool. Like someone else said its located in the city of schenectady, which is not the best of cities, it has some economic/drug problems. anyways, if I was interested in engineering I would consider going there.

Poontast1c,
If it's not too personal, I'm curious whether my alma mater, the Silver Warriors, is where you're in h.s. Feel free to PM. :)

I live near Union College and I have toured the campus a couple of times since it is one of my top choices. The campus is absolutely beautiful and their academic programs (especially engineering) are, for the most part, excellent. It is just one step below the Ivy League schools. I've heard they have a lot of really cool activities at Union too, especially on weekends. And don't worry about Schenectady, it's really not that bad. If you're looking for something to do off campus you will probably want to go to nearby Albany, a small city (but bigger than Schenectady!) that has a bajillion restaurants, shops, movie theaters, bars, clubs, etc.

Union College (in my belief) is very selective for Engineering (as it's one of the best Engineering schools around).
