Does anyone know how I can borrow a Mac computer for use for research?

I’d like to borrow a Mac computer running OS 10.8 Mountain Lion and
XCode 4.5.1. My adviser has written a program in Objective-C++ that
can only be run on Macs, and I can’t install any software directly on
any of the Mac computers here. Does anyone know if Brown has a service
for borrowing computers, or if it’s possible to ask someone to install
XCode 4.5.1 on a OS 10.8 Mountain Lion computer that Brown owns
(either in a library or in the CS department computers)?

I would definitely need it for more than a few days, so Rockefeller wouldn’t count.

I would ask your advisor first - the department may have some they can lend out. Otherwise, you’re probably out of luck - I know you can’t install anything on the general computers.

Yeah - my adviser is telling me to ask the people who admin the general computers to ask if they might be able to install XCode for me, maybe.

Are there Macs available for students in Barus & Holley, anyways?

Don’t know about B&H, but you can take out laptop from the Rock for like 6 hours in-building use.

I imagine you want it for a longer period of time than that and I know CIS does laptop rentals for like month-long intervals (though, with their prices, it may not be worth it). [Computing Service and Repair | Brown University](<a href=“OIT | Brown University”>OIT | Brown University)

Ah thanks for the advice. And yeah - probably not worth it. =/ Adviser has asked me to consider asking tech staff to install.
