Does anyone know how to calculate a "UC" GPA

Before I list my classes and grades I would like to know if anyone has some spare time to do this for me. Greatly appreciated.

4=A, 3=B, etc. for all non-honors/AP courses. 5=A, 4=B...for up to 8 honors/AP courses.
It's pretty much a capped weighted GPA.

Only applies to College Prep classes. They won't look at like art classes.

number of A's x 4 = (1)
number of B's x 3 = (2)
number of C's x2 = (3)
a UC approved honor class gets extra point, as well as AP classes. for a max. of 8 points
add up (1)+(2)+(3)+(4)
divide by the total number of courses you took (must be a-g)

when they say eight classes for the extra honors point, it's really 8 semesters. So four two semester classes.

In order to calculate your exact UC GPA you need a list of which honors classes get the extra point and which ones don't. Your school should have this if youre instate, and the UC website might. It is important to figure this out because some classes, such as freshman honors english dont get the extra point.

my sophmore english honors class doesn't get an extra point.

that really ****es me off.

as a general rule, Frosh & Soph honors classes do not earn the extra point, nor do UC required classes, such as Honors Alg II. Just browsing, an art class that satisfies the VAPA requirement does count.

All AP/IB courses count for the bonus point, as do community or college classes taken while in HS.

If you are in-state, you can look up your HS on the link below.

<a href="https://admissions.ucop.edu/doorways/list/%5B/url%5D">https://admissions.ucop.edu/doorways/list/</a></p>

wow, thanks for the link bluebayou!

found my school.

Nobody else has mentioned this specifically, but I gather you know that the UC GPA is the weighted GPA calculated for UC's "A-G Courses" AND only for couses taken in Grades 10 & 11?

Thank you all for ur help just one more question is Advanced Athletics disregarded in the process?

Athletics, whether advanced or not, is not counted in the UC gpa calc. Only approved 'a-g' courses.

IC well could someone tell me if i did this correctly

10th

World Hist H 4 4
Alg 2 H 4 4
LA 2 H 4 4
Chem H 4 4
Span 2 4 4
PE - -

11th

AP USH 5 5
AP CHem 5 5
LA 3 H 5 5
Pre Calc H 5 5
Span 3 4 4
Adv PE - -

UC GPA = 4.4 ??? is this correct

It [the manual/handbook for UC] says that "No more than two yearlong UC-approved honors-level courses taken in the 10th grade may be given extra points."

yes, aoballer008, correct.

As easy way to calculate it: 1) 20 semesters times 4.0 = 80.
2) Add in 8 bonus points for your AP/honors classes = 88.
3) Divide 88 by 20 = 4.40.

damn, there's a pre-calc honors!?

my school sucks. :(

Thank you for all of ur help

yes, pre-calc has an honors level (+ bonus point).

bluebayou, you said earlier that all courses taken in college are given an extra point.

well i'm taking an ethnic studies class right now (mainly for just for the credit) at a community college. will this ethnic studies class also count for a 5 in my UCGPA if i get an A?

i guess ethnic studies goes under the "g" requirement?

please clarify it for me. thanks.

Since you are in-state, you can look up the class at your college online and see if it earns IGETC credit, i.e., transferable to the University/Ca' State system. If so, it will earn a bonus point. If the class is not transferable, and is something of a more remedial class that might be taught at a HS level, then it would not earn the bonus point. For example, a college course equivalent to Algebra II would not earn a bonus point since it is a required HS course for admissions. A general art/drawing course might not earn the bonus point (fulfills the VAPA requirement), but a course in Art History (similar to AP Art History) would.
