Does anyone know how U of R views SAT II scores?

I know that U of Rochester is pretty flexible with their test policy and that they will look at multiple combinations of tests. Does anyone know if scores in the 690 - 730 range on SAT IIs would help or hurt an app when combined with a 32 ACT composite? Also, I know that U of R will also look at AP scores for admission - would it be best to submit only tests with 5 or would scores of 4 also help? Any advice is appreciated. There is always the option of just submitting the ACT (which should be at least in range) but am frustrated by the borderline SAT II scores and whether or not they will help.

Re: AP’s, I think scores of 4 are good and won’t hurt. My daughter did not submit AP scores, just reported them on the Common App.

I’m not sure what to say about the SAT-2. My daughter submitted a 700 and a 760 and had a 32 ACT and got in. Can your daughter retake one or both? There is usually an SAT offered in early October. I’m not suggesting she needs to as I don’t know enough about admissions. But, if she is uncomfortable with her score and believes she can do better, she can re-take it.

Thanks for the response. Son tried Math II twice this year and got a 690 the first time and 680 the 2nd time (he has 34 ACT math and got 730 in math on the PSAT, did not take SAT). He did not much like trig/pre calc and is on to calculus now which he likes better. There is no way that he is going to study enough (or at all) to retake Math II. He has a 720 in Bio from 10th grade (when he took AP Bio, 4 on that) and 730 just now on Chem (after having taken AP Chem). He also has a 690 in US Hist from 10th grade (but a 5 on AP USH). He certainly won’t be better prepared next fall and he has a fall sport. So I don’t think there will be any retaking of these. It’s just a question of strategically should the scores be sent…especially the Math II (which would be an obvious test to submit for someone interested in engineering). Chem and Bio are probably fine. I think we will ask the GC who has a good relationship with the U of Rochester regional rep…

I got a 700 in bio and 720 in chemistry. I did not send them in. Still got into rochester.

D didn’t take any SAT II’s, and got in with lots of merit aid. Did send them her AP scores though (five 4’s and 5’s)

My guy never took SAT IIs. No regrets. He had a couple of 5’s on AP tests and some dual enrollment college As as well as a high ACT. YMMV
