@9384092 Was the packet you received just for NSP finalists? Calhoun notifications aren’t supposed to come out until Feb, right?
@collegebound1915 are you in state? I am also waiting for Tuesday’s mail, I’m in Wisconsin so I’m hopeful!
@9384092 Congrats! That’s awesome, hopefully I’ll see you at the NSP finalist weekend in February. IDK though…my stats are good, my essays were ok, I have some ECs but not a ton…well, I’ll see tomorrow I guess
@AWerth16 Not in state but Im on the east coast! I guess Tuesday is still a possibility though! I would love to go to scholars weekend…
@collegebound1915 @AWerth16 Thank you! Hopefully I will see you all there too! @carolinamom2boys And yes, the packet was NSP specific. I think you are correct about Calhoun Honors notifications coming out in February, but there is also an invitation to the Honors College with the NSP information if that helps!
Does everyone waiting meet all of the criteria in terms of rank, GPA and test scores?
@carolinamom2boys What criteria are you referring to?
The website says that most of the candidates had an ACT score of 34 or above or an SAT of 1500, ranked in top 1% of their class, extensive extra curricular and co curricular activities including leadership, service and research activities . 51% are ranked first in their class. The website describes this as a typical candidate . I was just curious if most everyone had similar stats.
@carolinamom2boys I do, my ACT score is 34, my unweighted GPA is 3.97 (weighted 4.2 I think?), I am currently ranked first in my class, and I’ve been involved in extracurriculars, though ECs are not exactly extensive. They definitely include leadership positions though
That’s great @AWerth16 . Good luck. My son meets all the criteria but ACT score, so we’re not expecting an invite.
@carolinamom2boys I have a 35 ACT, very high GPA (top 3 in my class - my school doesn’t rank), very involved in ECs, but my essays were probably relatively weak…
@carolinamom2boys Remember that the ACT is an average- I was technically below the average, so there must have been some perfect scores to even out the 34 reported average. The scholar that I know also didn’t have the exact test scores, but if the rest of your application is stellar there should be no worries
@collegebound1915 Thanks for sharing your info. Good luck to you. My son’s just hoping to getting into Calhoun Honors. I know it’s hard waiting. Hopefully that letter will come soon.
@9384092 Can you share which weekend in Feb for the interviews?
Thanks @9384092 . I’d be very surprised if he got a letter. His ACT score is only 32.
Hopefully I receive a letter Tuesday as well! My ACT is 34 and my SAT is 1520. Essays were pretty good so we will see.
I only have a 33 ACT and am in-state so probably didn’t get it if it already made its way to NC. I’m hoping there’s still a chance though as I’ve been lucky with scholarships in the past.
@carolinamom2boys Weekend is February 26-28th
Thank you @9384092
Good luck to everyone! I did want to say that if NSP doesn’t happen for you/your student, there are other wonderful opportunities once the students get to campus… such as the Dixon Global Policy Scholars program. Doesn’t offer the full ride, but does offer other wonderful opportunities! Worth checking out on the Honors website and considering applying (during freshman or sophomore year, most apply as freshmen.) Clearly there are many highly qualified students and not enough room for all to do NSP, sadly, but it is by no means the only path to special experiences.
Bummer…no letter for my daughter today. Still hoping to get in Calhoun Honors. She has 33 ACT, 2010 SAT.
In top 3% of class. Orchestra and several ECs including leadership an volunteering. I think her essays are a little weak. Congrats to those who got letters.
